Japanese Ramen Noodles
Ramen noodles is a Japanese dish that is very popular around the globe. Ramen consist of Chinese style wheat noodles, which are served in fish or meat based broth. This dish is often flavored with miso or soy sauce and it also uses toppings such as: Dried seaweed, sliced pork, green onions, corn and kamaboko. It is an important dish part of the Asian cuisine.
Ramen noodles are of Chinese origin, but is not specifically known when they were introduced to Japan. There is one theory about Ramen, which states that the word is the Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese Lamian, which means Hand pulled noodles. Another theory states that the word Ramen derives from Laomian, which in Cantonese is defined as to "stir", which the name refers to the preparation method of stirring the noodles with a sauce.
After World War II was done, cheap flour started to be imported from the United States to the Japanese market. During that time millions of troops from Japan had returned to East Asia and China. Several of the returnees started to set up Chinese restaurants across Japan because they had become familiar with the Chinese cuisine. Instant ramen was invented by Momofuku Ando in 1958. He is the chairman and founder of famous Japanese foods company called Nissin Foods. Instant ramen soup allows anyone to make this Japanese noodles dish by just simply adding boiling water. The majority of localities in Japan have their own variation of ramen noodles such as: Tonkutsu ramen from Kyushu, Miso ramen from Hokkaido and others.
